Basic Rules of Sumo
If you aren't aware of sumo etiquette, an active rikishi (sumo wrestler) will go over it with you before your bout(s). Observation of tradition is integral to our sport. Honor, good sportsmanship and appropriate decorum must be observed at all times.
-You win by forcing your opponent outside of the dohyō or causing them to touch down inside of the dohyō with anything other than the soles of their feet.
-No closed-hand striking .
-No kicking at or above the knee.
-No interlocking your fingers and crushing your opponent.
-No hairpulling, biting or choking.
-No untying of the mawashi.
-A loss is only a loss if nothing is learned from it.
